There are two places where you can update the license on the
dongle:
- Dental System Control Panel
- Dongle Update Client
Dental System Control Panel:
Usually you will find a shortcut for Dental System Control
Panel on the desktop. Otherwise launch the application by:
- Clicking the "3Shape Dental system Control Panel" - button in
DentalManager
- Doubleclicking "C:\Program Files\3Shape\Dental System Control
Panel\ControlPanel.exe"
Once the application has been lainched goto "Administrative
Settings" and choose either:
- Open dongle in this PC (if you open the Control Panel on
the pc in which the dongle is inserted)
- Open dongle in 3Shape Dongle Service (if you
look for a dongle in another pc)
Dongle Update Client:
This application can be downloaded from the Support
section on www.3Shape.com. If already
installed it is most likely to be found in following
location:
- C:\Program Files\3Shape\Dongle Update Client
To execute the application just doubleclick
"DongleUpdateClient.exe". Note that it must be executed locally on
the pc in which the dongle is insterted.
Internet or manual update?:
Regardless application you would usually just click
"Internet update" to check for available updates
on 3Shape license server. If there are new licenses available it
will automatically be downloaded and applied to the dongle.
However, if you are not connected to the internet you must do a
"Manual update" and in this case please
contact your reseller.
In general the scanner should be calibrated at least once a
month.
Moreover it is advisable to run a calibration if the
scanner receives a blow or has been moved from one place to
another.
When opening a 3Shape application you may receive following
error:
Dongle not
found
The most likely reason for this error
is that the dongle driver was not installed properly. If you do not
see a light in the dongle this may be another thing confirming this
theory.
To solve the problem therefore
install/reinstall the dongle driver.
If this is first time to have a
dongle inserted in this pc you should probably start by
downloading and installing the driver software. You can obtain
the driver from the download section of the 3Shape support
homepage. Please contact your reseller if you do not have
access to the download section. To install the driver just
doubleclick the downloaded exe-file and follow the
instructions.
To reinstall the driver rightclick "my
computer" and choose "Properties". Then goto "Hardware" tab and
click "Device Manager". Rightclick the entry for the
un-recognize USB device and choose "Update driver". Choose to
let the installation wizard "Install the software automatically
(Recommended)" and then follow the rest of the instructions.
When scanning in ScanItRestoration following message may comes
up:
Dynamic limits could not be
obtained. Please restart scan.
Getting this message is not a an
indication of a scanner error or a malfunction. It's merely a
message that the laser inside the scanner cannot hit the target.
The object being scanned is simply occupying a smaller area than
expected, or is shorter than usual and can therefore not be
scanned. The cause can also be that the surface is too dark or too
shiny, thus absorbing or reflecting the light.
The way to solve this is to build up
the scanned object with more blue clay, place it more in the middle
and also make sure that the object does not have a too dark color
or a shiny surface.
When opening a 3Shape application you may receive following
error:
No client points for
application
The most likely reason for this error
is that there is no license on the dongle for the particular
program you are trying to execute.
To solve the problem you must add a
new license for this type application to your dongle. Please
contact your reseller regarding to this matter.
When opening a 3Shape application you may receive following
error:

The most likely reason for this error
is that there is no license on the dongle for the particular
program you are trying to execute.
To solve the problem you must add a

The 3Shape Dental System is per default being installed with
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express, and in most cases this will be
enough to handle the production. The reason for this is that a lot
of the production data generated by the Dental System is being
stored directly on the hard disk and not in the database.
But 3Shape Dental System can also run with other editions of the
Microsoft SQL Server 2005, which may relevant if you have special
requirements for the pc server hardware as the Expression edition
is very limited in it's way of taking advantage of additional
powerful hardware.
To compare the available Microsoft SQL Server 2005 editions
(incl. Supported hardware) please visit Microsofts homepage here.
The latest scanner software for D250's is ScanServer version
4.0.1.0.
ScanServer version 4.0.1.0 can be obtained from the
download section on the 3Shape support homepage. Please contact
your reseller if you do not have login info for this section.
When trying to calibrate the scanner you will be asked for a
password. This password is: docal
The default password for the windows login
"scan", under which the 3Shape Dental System by
default is installed when shipped from 3Shape, is:
scan
The following scan sprays are tested and recommended by
3Shape:
If a license on your dongle has expired you will get
following message when trying to open the application:
Application license has
expired
In these situations you
should start by performing an Internet Update on the
dongle (please see: How do I update the license on
my dongle?) as there may be an upgrade waiting for you already.
If an Internet Update does not solve the problem, you
should contact your reseller (please note that unless you
bought the system directly from 3Shape we cannot help you with
this matter).
There are two places where you can look for the dongle
number:

In both cases you will find a field for the Dongle
number.
Dongle Update Client:
This application can be downloaded from the Support
section on www.3Shape.com. If already
installed it is most likely to be found in following
location:
- C:\Program Files\3Shape\Dongle Update Client
To execute the application just doubleclick
"DongleUpdateClient.exe". Note that it must be executed locally on
the pc in which the dongle is insterted. When launched you will see

There are different ways look up the contents of a dongle.
For example:
- 3Shape Dental System Control Panel
- Dongle Update Client
Please see "How do I update the license on my dongle?" for
how to launch these application.
Another way to check the contents of a local dongle and at the
same time to see what licenses that currently is being used is

For the Dental system to work with a Firewall the following
ports must be added to the exception list:
- TCP: port 1066
- TCP: port 1433
- TCP: port 1434
- TCP: port 1666
- TCP: port 27027
Please, note that above are the ports that by default will be
used by the Dental System. If you have changed any of
these during the installation/configuration of the system the
exception list must of course be updated accordingly.
Besides the ports you must also add the following programs
to the exception list:
- sqlbrowser.exe
- sqlservr.exe
The link below must also be added:
http://www.3shape.com/LicenseManagement/RemoteLicenseManagementServer.exe
/soap/
3Shape Dental System version 2.5.5.6 or newer are supported on
following Windows OS system:
- Windows Vista (32 bit)
- Windows XP (32 bit)
- Windows 7 (32 bit)
Systems prior to version 2.5.5.6 are only supported on Windows
Vista and XP 32 bit.
When our test program has been expanded to include other
operating systems our official recommendations will off course be
updated.
Sometimes you may experience that the margin line is being cut
away at the end of the single die scan. This usually does not
indicate a hardware issue but rather that some scan settings in
ScanItRestoration may need adjustment or that you should place
the margin dot differently.
If this is a general problem for most of your scans you should
probably consider increasing the value for the "Die in a bridge:
height below margin line"-option under the "General"-tabpage which
you will find by opening ScanItRestoration and go to "File" -->
"Scan Settings". Remember that you must restart
ScanItRestoration before the changes take affect.
If you only see this problem once in a while (which propably is
the case) you should not make any changes to the option mentioned
above. Instead you should keep in mind that the final cut is
decided by the placement of the margin dot and that you therefore
just should lower the dot. Do not worry that the dot is not placed
directly on the margin line as this can be corrected in
DentalDesigner afterwards.
By default the Dental System offers to reload old scan data
when rescanning an order.
However, if you are not being offered to reload old scan data
when doing rescans this is most likely caused by the "Keep raw scan
data" option being disabled.
To enable this option please open ScanItRestoration and go to
"File" --> "Scan Settings". Set a check-mark for "Keep raw
scan data" under the "General" tabpage and click "OK" to save the
changes.
Note that you must restart ScanItRestoration before the changes
take affect.
The most likely reason for long scanning times in
ScanItRestoration is that the system has been set up to
do detailed scans. Doing high detailed scans automatically
decrease the scanning speed.
To adjust the details/speed with which you scan please
do the following.
- Open ScanItRestoration
- Open menu "File" --> "Scan Settings"
- Click the "Advanced" tab
- Adjust the slidebar where it says "Die scanning optimized
for:"
- If the slidebar has been set to "Details" and
you experience a long scanning time you should adjust to
"Speed"
- Click "OK" to save your changes
- Restart ScanItRestoration to force the changes to take
affect
Note the above mentioned changes do not affect the accuracy of
the scans.
