How do I update the license on my dongle?

There are two places where you can update the license on the dongle:

  • Hearing Instrument System Control Panel
  • Dongle Update Client

Hearing Instrument System Control Panel:
Usually you will find a shortcut for Hearing Instrument System Control Panel on the desktop. Otherwise run one of the following files, depending on your type of installation:

  • Q:\ShellManager\Software\Control Panel\ControlPanel.exe (for Shellmanager systems)
  • C:\Program Files\3Shape\Control Panel\ControlPanel.exe (for stand-alone installations)

In both cases goto "Administrative Tools" and then choose either::

  • Local Dongle Update (if you open the Control Panel on the pc in which the dongle is inserted)
  • Remote Dongle Update  (if you look for a dongle in another pc)

Dongle Update Client:
This application can be downloaded from the Support section on www.3Shape.com. If already installed it is most likely to be found in following location:

  • C:\Program Files\3Shape\Dongle Update Client

To execute the application just doubleclick "DongleUpdateClient.exe". Note that it must be executed locally on the pc in which the dongle is insterted.

Internet or manual update?:
Regardless application you would usually just click "Internet update" to check for available updates on 3Shape license server. If there are new licenses available it will automatically be downloaded and applied to the dongle. However, if you are not connected to the internet you must do a "Manual update" and in this case please contact your reseller.

 
How often should I calibrate the scanner?

In general the scanner should be calibrated at least once a month.

Moreover it is advisable to run a calibration if the scanner receives a blow or has been moved from one place to another.

 
How to deal with protection dongle error number 20?

When opening a 3Shape application you may receive following error:

Protection Dongle error number 20
Software protection dongle error. Program cannot run

The most likely reason for this error is that there is no license on the dongle for the particular program you are trying to execute.

To solve the problem you must add a new license for this type application to your dongle. Please contact your reseller regarding to this matter. 

 
How to deal with protection dongle error number 28/00 49 96 96 00 00?

When opening a 3Shape application you may receive following error:

Protection Dongle error number 28/00 49 96 96 00 00
Software protection dongle error. Program cannot run

The most likely reason for this error is that the dongle driver was not installed properly. If you do not see a light in the dongle this may be another thing confirming this theory.

To solve the problem therefore install/reinstall the dongle driver.

If this is first time to have a dongle inserted in this pc you should probably start by downloading and installing the driver software. You can obtain the driver from the download section of the 3Shape support homepage. Please contact your reseller if you do not have access to the download section. To install the driver just doubleclick the downloaded exe-file and follow the instructions.

To reinstall the driver rightclick "my computer" and choose "Properties". Then goto "Hardware" tab and click "Device Manager". Rightclick the entry for "USB Key Ver. 1.0 Microcosm ltd." (which you will probably find with an exclamation mark under the "Software Security" header) and choose "Update driver". Choose to let the installation wizard "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" and then follow the rest of the instructions.

 
What is the password for calibrating the scanner?

When trying to calibrate the scanner you will be asked for a password. This password is: docal

 
What to do if the program has expired?

If a license on your dongle has expired you will get following message when trying to open the application:

Protection Dongle error number 25
Application license has expired

In these situations you should start by performing an Internet Update on the dongle (please see: How do I update the license on my dongle?) as there may be an upgrade waiting for you already.

If an Internet Update does not solve the problem, you should contact your reseller (please note that unless you bought the system directly from 3Shape we cannot help you with this matter).

 
What to do when the Accept license button is not visible?

First time when launching a 3Shape application you need to accept to the license conditions by clicking the Accept button.

However, you may experience that the Accept button is not visible which is usually caused by a combination of screen resolution and font sizes.

To get around this problem you must either correct the screen settings (rightclick the desktop and choose Properties) or, as quick and dirty workaround,  tab 3 times and press Enter.

Where do I see what's on my dongle?

There are different ways look up the contents of a dongle. For example:

Another way to check the contents of a local dongle and at the same time to see what licenses that currently is being used is to:

Why do I get a "Site ID not set" error when exporting  materials?

When exporting materials in Hearing Instrument Control Panel you may get following message:

Site ID not set. Export cannot continue.

The reason for this errormessage is that no value was specified for the "Site ID" setting. This setting is among other things being used to identify where export-sme's origins from.

To correct this problem a value for "Site ID" must be specified. To set the ID open 3Shape Hearing Instrument Control Panel and go to "System Settings" and fill in a value where is says "Site ID". The value specified is free of choice but could fx. be Companyname and Country-initials.

 
Why does the impression move without the spaceball is being touched?

In ShellDesigner and EarmouldDesigner you may experience that the impression is rotating or disappearing out of the screen even though the spaceball is not being touched.

This behaviour is mostly seen if the spaceball is touched while it calibrates or right after installation of the spaceball driver.

To solve this problem simply restart the spaceball driver or reboot the pc.
