Getting high-quality design proposals has never been easier. With the introduction of Automate AI design proposals in Dental System, eligible cases will automatically receive a design proposal. The design proposals are based on Automate’s proven AI technology, with a 94 % acceptance rate and over 3 million designs accepted and downloaded.

How to get started?

1. 3Shape AI Design proposal Extension is installed automatically upon upgrade to Dental System 2024.1.1 or higher.
2. When the upgrade is deployed to you, you will, if you are not a previous user of Automate, be asked to accept the usage terms. Two new buttons will appear.

3. You are ready to go! From this point, eligible cases that currently include crowns, inlays, onlays and anatomical copings will get automatic AI proposals that you may accept for Production right away or accept for editing if you would like to make some adjustments to the proposal.

You may switch between Auto-Upload (set by default) and manual upload where you will need to hit the Upload to Automate AI button for the cases you wish to be designed by 3Shape Automate.

Which cases are supported?

Currently supported indications are crowns, inlays/onlays and anatomical copings, bridges coming up with Dental System 2025.

For the case to be uploaded for AI proposal, it should not contain non-eligible indications in the order form.

For the case containing a supported indication and a model, AI proposal for the supported indication will be generated first. Once the AI proposal has been accepted, Model Builder (or Model Builder Express) can be opened to proceed with model creation.

Which scans are eligible for Automate in Dental System? 

Free AI proposals in Dental System support scans from specific sources that ensure compatibility and optimal processing. Currently, only the following scan types are eligible:
•    TRIOS intraoral scans
•    3Shape lab scanner outputs
•    Integrated Sirona scans 
These scans must be saved in supported file format .DCM
👉 Note: Scans from non-integrated third-party systems are not supported directly for AI proposals in Dental System, but they can be submitted via the Automate website. 

How to change design settings?

When Dentist dependent CAD settings are available in Dental System Control Panel, they will be used for Automate AI design for a case coming from this specific dentist. 

Otherwise design settings from the material will be used.

How to get the best overview of current case status?

It is possible to enable a status field for AI supported cases that will make it easier to see if a case is eligible and if the processing has completed. To enable the status, please right-click the status bar in dental manager, and enable "Application Status".

Which customers are eligible for Automate in Dental System?

AI design proposals in Dental System are available only for LabCare customers with at least one seat of the Dental System Software Package listed below:

• Dental System Complete Restorative
• Dental System Premium 
• Dental System Crown & Bridge

How are Automate in Dental System cases being counted?

When using Automate in Dental System, a fair usage policy¹ applies.
Here the number of units is being counted: i.e. 1 crown = 1 unit. 

What are the requirements to set up Automate in Dental System?

To use Automate in Dental System, you need the following setup components in place:
1.    Dental System version 2024.1.1 or newer
Automate AI design proposals are only available from version 2024.1.1 onward. The Automate extension is installed automatically with the upgrade. Dental System 25 (launching soon) is required for AI bridges

2.    3Shape Account
A valid 3Shape account is required to access Automate services. This account must be linked to your Dental System installation and used to log in

3.    Internet Connection
A stable internet connection is essential, as Automate relies on cloud-based AI processing. Network restrictions (e.g., firewalls or proxy settings) may block access and should be configured to allow communication with 3Shape services

4.    System Compatibility
Ensure your hardware and software meet the system requirements for Dental System 2024 or newer. This includes sufficient memory, storage, and updated Windows OS

Additional notes

• Currently available in US, EU and selected other markets.
• Designs above the annual fair usage cap can be purchased using CAD points:
  • 2 CAD points for 1 AI Unit (Crown, Inlay, Onlay, Anatomical Coping) ​
  • E.g. 3 unit bridge = 3 AI units
• Customers on Dental System Basic package will be able to use 3Shape Automate via the website only without any free designs included.

As part of our introductory offer, a fair usage limit of 2,400 AI design units per year, per seat applies through 2025 for customers using Dental System Crown & Bridge, Premium, or Complete Restorative. The fair usage limit may be adjusted at 3Shape’s discretion.
