Hosted network cannot be started using Wireless Service 2.7.0

Overview

When attempting to connect a TRIOS 5 scanner using a TP-Link USB Wi-Fi adapter in Unite 1.8.16.0 (TRIOS module 1.18.9.11), the connection fails due to Hosted Network issues.

Users encounter an error preventing the Wireless Service from starting the Hosted Network, which blocks scanner connectivity.

 

Symptoms

Error message appears:

"Attach the USB Wi-Fi network dongle to the computer"

When manually accessing:

  • http://localhost:8000/3ShapeWirelessService/
    

the following warning is displayed:

"Unable to get tethering manager configuration. If this problem continues, check whether Mobile hotspot is configured for sharing over Bluetooth and ensure that Mobile hotspot is set to share over Wi-Fi."

  • Hosted Network fails to start
  • Internet connectivity drops intermittently during attempts
  • TRIOS scanners cannot connect via TP-Link adapter

Environment

  • Environment Type: Production
  • Multidevice: Yes
  • Wireless Service Version: 2.7.0

 

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Attempt to connect a TRIOS scanner in Unite using TP-Link
  2. Observe error:
    • "Attach the USB Wi-Fi network dongle to the computer"

 

  1. Manually open:
    http://localhost:8000/3ShapeWirelessService/
    
  2. Start Hosted Network
  3. Observe:
    • Temporary internet loss
    • Warning message appears
    • Scanner connection fails
    • Hosted Network Status > "Mode" appeared as "Disallowed"

 

 

Log Findings

Wireless Service logs indicate a Hosted Network startup failure:

Workaround! 

1. Excecute CMD as admin
2. Run command: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow
3. Hosted Network can be normally initiated using Wireless service version 2.7.0
