When to calibrate your TRIOS scanner

Regular Calibration Schedule: Keeping TRIOS Performance Optimal

TRIOS scanners must be calibrated regularly to keep the performance of the scanner and ensure high-quality scans.  The frequency of calibration may differ depending on what type of scanner you have.  If you are not sure, please see here.

There can be different reasons for the calibration of the TRIOS scanner:

  • Regular calibration to maintain scan quality
    • For TRIOS 3 Scanner: it is recommended to calibrate once every 7 days.
    • For TRIOS 4 scanner: each smart scanning tip can be used for scanning up to 20 times before calibration will be needed.
  • Decreasing quality of scans
    • When you see that the quality of scans is not as good as it should be.
  • When software is asking for calibration (software pop-up windows).
    • For TRIOS 3 Scanner:  if calibration is not done for 7 days, the TRIOS software will remind you about it automatically.
      • Shade measurement may be disabled if the scanner was not color-calibrated for 30 days, so it is important to regularly color-calibrate the scanner.

  • For TRIOS 4 Scanner: If 20 or more scans are done with one of the scanner tips - the pop-up will appear.

  • TRIOS 4 tips: The individual number of the tip and the number of scans taken with the tip is shown on the Scanner Management page in Unite Settings.
    • (More > Settings > TRIOS > Scanner Management):

  • The scanner must be calibrated after it has been moved, shaken, or experienced a wide range of temperature changes.
