Switch between Abutment Height Calculations in DS 2025

07/08/2025

A new parameter has been added to the Abutment Kit settings in DS 2025 that allows switching between two different methods of calculating the Top Cap Height during abutment validation.

According to the FDA, there is no standardized definition for calculating the top cap height of an abutment. As a result:

  • Some manufacturers prefer calculating it from the top of the margin line
  • Others rely on the traditional method

To support flexibility and regulatory compliance, DS 2025 introduces an optional toggle in the system.

How It Works

Control Panel

A new checkbox is added on the “Limitations” tab of the Abutment Kit edit dialog:

“Measure top cap height from the top of margin line”

Default state: Unchecked (i.e., old method is used)

The checkbox state is saved per abutment kit and loaded automatically

Important: This behavior is controlled by the Library Provider.

Dental Designer Behavior

If the checkbox is NOT checked
→ Top cap height is calculated using the old method (before change abutment validation parameters).

If the checkbox IS checked
→ Top cap height is calculated using the new method (after change abutment validation parameters).

This update ensures that both calculation methods are available and used appropriately per manufacturer needs, improving system flexibility and regulatory alignment.
