3Shape Unite 24.1 - Cloud storage and Cloud license Offline Mode

3Shape Unite 24.1 - Cloud storage and Cloud license Offline Mode

14/04/2024

Same as other cloud-based solutions, 3Shape Unite 24.1 will need a stable internet connection at all times to fully utilize the benefits of cloud storage and cloud licenses. However, to ensure maximum productivity even at the times when internet connection is missing, 3Shape Unite 24.1 will offer a certain degree of offline tolerance.

Comparing Unite 24.1 to previous versions by offline capabilities

What happens with licenses if the system goes offline

  • License-wise you can stay fully offline for 10 days without any implications - including scanning with your TRIOS scanner. The only exception is not being able to spend saves on save-limited demo licenses. The software will notify that it’s not possible to spend a save until the system is back online. No case progress will be lost because of that.
  • If you don't reconnect to the internet for more than 10 days, you will lose access to all licenses - including a possibility to scan with TRIOS scanner - until you get back online. The software will notify you that until the connection is restored, you won’t be able to use any 3Shape apps in 3Shape Unite including scanning with your TRIOS.

What happens with data (scans and cases) if user goes offline

Only local data is available on a device and any new change of it doesn't appear in the cloud (similar to how the situation looks before Unite 24.1). It means that if a user would like to take a laptop on a plane etc. and work in a full offline mode, then there is no sync with the cloud. If any data (a case for example) from other devices are needed, it should be pre-downloaded.

Also, when the device is back online and is connected to the cloud, then the software may guide in case of any conflicts that appear (when any other device had been working on this case and pushed some data that conflicts with the version of yours).

Working without cloud storage while staying online

Starting from Unite 24.1 version, the offline mode can be considered like a fully offline experience with no internet connection or just with cloud storage being disabled.

If you prefer to keep your data local and do not upload it to the cloud, you can opt out of cloud storage either:

  • During the initial consent screen at first login after the update, or
  • Later via Unite settings by going to More → Storage Management → Cloud and Advanced Storage - > Cloud storage, and disable “Sync with cloud storage”.

When disabling cloud storage, you’ll be prompted to choose a local storage to ensure all your cases remain available for offline work at any time.

The software will guide you to go to More → Storage Management → Cloud and Advanced Storage → Advanced storage settings → Local Storage, where you’ll need to enable “Use this device as local storage” option.

Note: you can designate more than one device as a local storage in your setup.
