How to set Nvidia graphics card to high performance

If the PC is used for TRIOS scanning or as a lab design station, it must be in the list of approved PCs in the latest 3Shape PC Catalog in order to guarantee proper operation. Please check the latest PC catalog with your reseller.

The configuration described below can also be used to improve the performance of other 3Shape software applications, such as Dental System and Ortho System.

Step-by-step instruction

Follow the next steps to configure NVIDIA graphics card for the best performance:

1.Press WINDOWS or click in the windows menu icon. Type “Nvidia control panel

2.Click on "NVIDIA Control Panel"

OR

1. Do right click on the Desktop

2.Select NVIDIA Control Panel

Once you open the Nvidia control panel, a window similar to the one portrayed below will appear.

3. Go to "Manage 3D settings"

4. Select "Global settings", click on "Preferred graphics processor" and select "High-performance NVIDIA processor" and press Apply

For Quadro cards only, select "Base profile" in the field "Global presets". This will enable usage of NVIDIA graphics card globally on the system.

Alternatively in the same window, go to "Program settings" > "add" and search for the 3Shape software you want to use. After this, click on "Add selected program". You can add different programs at the same time if required (Dental Desktop/Unite, Dental Manager, Dental Designer, Ortho Analyzer, etc).

Click on "Select the preferred graphics processor for this program" and select " High performance NVIDIA processor". Press "Apply".

4.1 For GeForce graphic cards, in option, OpenGLrendering GPU, select the graphic card available. Also, in option Power management mode, select Prefer maximum performance. Finally, apply the new configuration.

5. In August 2020, Microsoft released new build 20190 that has updates to the way systems with multiple video cards (integrated and discrete) choose appropriate video card according to the workload. This also corresponds with new versions of Nvidia drivers (452.06 and later) that were released in August 2020.

For this reason, is necessary to add all 3shape software to graphics performance preferences as shown in the following steps:

5.1 Open the Windows menu and search the “Graphic Settings” tool.

5.2 In the "graphics performance preferences" window, select the browse button and search for the relevant 3shape applications in the following path. C:\Program Files\3Shape.

This can be done for any 3shape product, both lab and clinic, just keep in mind that the respective executable(s) (.exe files) needs to be selected and added.

5.3 After adding the 3shape applications to this list, we select the options button and select high performance options and save the changes.

After these steps and verifying the NVIDIA drivers are up to date, the graphics card will be fully configured for best performance with the 3shape applications.
