Unite lifecycle policy

Unite lifecycle policy

23/11/2024

At 3Shape we are constantly developing and focusing on functionalities that are most sought after by our customers. Therefore, as of January 2025 3Shape has introduced a lifecycle policy for our clinic software.

Unite will introduce a 2-year support period for software updates, starting from global availability dates of each release. The dates will be disclosed in the table below. Once the software version reaches the end of its lifetime, there will be no new updates (incl. new features, bug fixes, improvements, and security updates) and technical support offered. Customers are encouraged to update to the latest available version.

Products and technical support periods

1) Windows version compatibility with 3Shape Unite.
2) TRIOS Pod Systems are compatible with PCs on Windows 10 or 11. TRIOS discontinuation policy and repair schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is 3Shape introducing a lifecycle policy for Unite?
At 3Shape we are continuously focusing on our customers and developing the best solutions for them. The Unite lifecycle policy is designed to provide a clear and predictable end-of-life timeline and help you upgrade in timely manner, avoiding use of unsupported software. As a result, you will have access to the latest features and improvements, enhancing overall experience and ensuring optimal use of our products.

Is the Unite lifecycle policy applicable globally?
3Shape Unite lifecycle policy is applicable globally, even though 3Shape understands that local regulations, conditions, and support requirements differ among the markets.

What products are covered under this policy?
Unite lifecycle policy applies to all Unite-based software applications and cloud services. This includes TRIOS Software, Model Builder Express, Engagement Apps, Studio Apps, cloud storage, Unite Cloud, Communicate and 3Shape Account.

Will I be informed when support is ending?
We will disclose the end-of-support date once the software is globally available in the table below.

Will the software notify me that I am using software below the minimum supported version?
The software does not provide notifications. We recommend updating to the latest version as soon as it becomes available to you. You can refer to the table above to check end-of-life dates for each version.

Where can I see which Unite version I am using?
If you are using Dental Desktop (pre-Unite) you will find it in Help Center (‘?’ button in the upper right corner) and then pressing ‘i’ button on the upper bar to see the version number.
If you are using 3Shape Unite, you can follow the same steps as above or view it in the Unite Store by going to Installed Apps tab, clicking on Unite card and checking App Info.

Can I continue using Unite versions outside the policy?
We strongly recommend upgrading to the latest software version. There are several risks using unsupported software versions such as no technical support, security vulnerabilities, compatibility issues (e.g. with your TRIOS or Windows), lack of new features, performance issues, and no bug fixes.

In case you require guidance or support with updating to the latest version, find instructions for updating in our update guides. We currently have a guide on updating from Dental Desktop to the latest version or from Unite 21.1 to the latest version. You can of course also contact customer support.

What kind of support will be offered to out-of-policy customers?
We are happy to support you with upgrading your current version of Unite to a newer version. We unfortunately cannot offer technical support for the versions outside the policy.

Will I still receive hardware support for my TRIOS?
We will still provide remote troubleshooting for TRIOS scanners such as scanner connectivity issues. However, if the root cause of the problem is software-related, we will require you to upgrade before providing further assistance.

What Windows versions are compatible with Unite?
Unite follows Windows’ lifecycle policy and new software updates are compatible with supported Windows versions. However, optimal performance cannot be guaranteed on unsupported Windows versions.

If you try to update Unite while using an incompatible Windows version, a pop-up will prompt you to update Windows before proceeding with the Unite update. You can find Unite and Windows compatibility in the table above.
