How to enable DS-Win integration with Dental Desktop

Prerequisites for the integration:  

• Dental Desktop 1.7.19.x or newer is installed. 
• DS-Win 21.04.x or newer is installed. 
• DS-Win client and Dental Desktop should be installed on the same computer.  
• Both standalone and client-server setups are supported.

3Shape TRIOS on Dental Desktop and DS-Win (PMS) integration provides automation of patient management in Dental Desktop from DS-Win (Create, merge and update patient) and allows you to open Dental Desktop directly from the patient chart in DS-Win for faster and easier workflows.  Read more about DS-Win here.

How to enable the integration in Dental Desktop

Check requirements and update your dongle and Dental Desktop if needed.

In 3Shape Unite, go to More > Settings > Software integrations > Practice Management Integration > Setup.  Click the checkbox next to "Enable" in the "VDDS Interface" section.

Select VDDS as the integration type.

Navigate to Patients to save changes.  Press Yes.

You have now enabled the interface used for the integration in Dental Desktop. Now you can proceed with enabling integration in DS-Win software.

How to enable the integration in DS-Win

Please consult DS-Win documentation. The following steps are provided as an aid to set up and use the integration in DS-Win software.

Open DS-Win > go to Einstellungen > Sonstige Einstellungen > VDDS.

Put a checkmark in every checkbox as shown on the screenshot below.

Select 3Shape.DentalDesktop with a double-click.

To save changes, click übernehmen and then OK.

After changes are saved, the 3Shape Dental Desktop button will appear in the PatInfo tab.

Known limitations

• DS-Win client and Dental Desktop must be installed on the same computer.
• Both standalone and client-server setups are supported (from Dental Desktop version 1.7.19.1), but the integration currently does not support Dental Desktop server-client installation on TRIOS MOVE/MOVE+, as installing PMS client on TRIOS MOVE/MOVE+ is not supported.
• Patient updates are only propagated from DS-Win to Dental Desktop. Not the other way around.
