Windows 11 Update - Connection issues between Server and Client PCs

30/10/2025

After upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11, some users may experience connection issues between their server and client PCs.
When trying to access the server from a client PC via File Explorer, Windows may now prompt for login credentials that the user cannot find.

This behavior can occur due to updated Windows 11 security settings (introduced with update KB5066835), which cannot be reverted.
Microsoft now treats duplicate Security Identifiers (SIDs) as a potential security risk.
If two PCs share the same SID (machine-level and user-level), Windows will block access to network resources.

Restoring functionality

  • To restore functionality, each PC must have a unique SID.
  • This issue is related to your Windows network configuration, not to 3Shape software itself.
We strongly recommend involving your local IT specialist to resolve it.

Please share the following information with them:
  • The issue started after upgrading to Windows 11.
  • Windows may now block access between computers if their system identifiers (SIDs) are the same.
  • The IT specialist can check and assign unique identifiers or adjust Windows settings to restore the connection.

In case your IT specialist requires further instructions, you may reach out to Support for further guidance.
