General Questions

How will the licensing model change with the transition to the cloud?

The licensing model itself will remain unchanged and will continue to follow the Product Catalog. However, 3Shape will stop shipping physical dongles to new customers. Instead, activation codes for cloud-based licenses will be provided. Existing customers will be migrated to the cloud system.

How will subscription renewals be handled in the cloud model?

There are no changes. Renewals will follow the same process as with dongle-based subscriptions.

Will there be a difference in pricing between dongle-based and cloud-based licenses?

No. The price remains the same.

Migration & Compatibility

Is it possible to move back to a physical dongle after migrating to the Cloud License?

Yes, but only temporarily. After migration, the dongle can still be used for 30 days before it’s fully disabled. This buffer allows for continuity and troubleshooting if needed.

Will educational licenses be migrated to the cloud?

Yes, most educational licenses will be migrated. Customers should confirm eligibility with their reseller.

Will there be any downtime during the transition?

No significant downtime is expected. Dongle migration takes just a few minutes and is guided by an on-screen wizard.

Training & Management

Will I need any special training to manage cloud licenses?

No training is required. The system will guide the user through the process step-by-step when it’s their turn for migration.

Will all types of licenses (e.g., Ortho, Studio Apps) migrate?

Yes, but in waves. There is a separate migration wave for Dental System, Unite, and Ortho. Not all systems migrate at once, and dongles should be kept until the full transition is confirmed.

Trial, Offline Use, and Technical Details

Will trial licenses migrate to the Cloud?

Only officially registered trial licenses (linked to contracts in the 3Shape ERP) will be migrated. Contact your reseller for validation.

Can I use the software offline after migration?

Yes, you can work offline for up to 10 days. However, certain functionalities (e.g., CAD point consumption, Automate, saves) require internet.

What happens if there’s an internet outage?

The software will still be accessible offline for up to 10 days. Some features will be limited.

Are there specific system requirements for the cloud version?

An internet connection is required for installation and to refresh license data. The rest of the system requirements remain unchanged.

Server-Client Installations

How does cloud licensing work with server-client Dental System setups?

Each client PC will connect to the local license server, which then connects to the cloud. Firewall rules must be adjusted accordingly.

Admin & Internal Use

Can we check how many client points a customer has and how many are used?

Yes, this is possible in the new Licenses Admin interface.

Can trial licenses still be added in Dental Admin (DA) after Cloud migration?

No. Only Sales can add trial licenses post-migration.

Can support transfer licenses to Cloud?

Yes, but only manually. You must collect a list of dongles and request the associated subscription ID to enable Cloud Licensing.
