Abutment Top Cap Angle Validation Error on Finalize Step of Abutment Design

08/11/2023

On the Finalize step of an abutment design you may encounter the following error

“Abutment top cap angle violated. Angle between implant direction and abutment top cap direction is more than the maximum limitation.”

Cause

This error occurs when the abutment design exceeds the Limit maximum top cap angle defined in the selected implant kit.

This validation is always performed during the design process and cannot be disabled. The allowable angle is determined by the implant library provider and may be locked to comply with regulatory requirements.

To review the configured limitation:

Step 1: Open "Dental System Control Panel".

Step 2: Go to "Abutments".

Step 3: Select "Implant Systems".

Step 4: Select the implant system and kit used for the case.

Step 5: Click "Edit".

Step 6: Review the "Limit maximum top cap angle" setting as shown on the picture below.

Resolution

CAM output must comply with the design parameters provided in the selected abutment kit and the patient-specific abutment directions for use supplied by the abutment manufacturer and implant library provider.

Failure to follow the design parameters specified in the abutment documentation may constitute manufacturing of a medical device.

Modify the abutment design so that the top cap angle remains within the limits defined by the selected implant kit.

If it is not possible to achieve the required design without exceeding the limitation, the value is most likely locked by the implant library provider. In this case, contact the implant library provider to determine whether the permitted angle can be adjusted.
