Dental System Cloud License Migration Process
18/06/2025This guide provides step-by-step instructions for migrating your Dental System licenses from a dongle-based system to the 3Shape Cloud License model. This process simplifies license management and improves flexibility across devices. The steps below are designed to ensure a smooth transition, especially for new users.
Cloud License Migration Process
Step 1: Profile Selection After Installation
Immediately after installing Dental System, you will be prompted to select or create a 3Shape Account profile.
If you already have a 3Shape Account, you can add a profile.
If not, select "Create 3Shape Account" to begin.
The account used here will be the one your licenses are transferred to.
Note: If installation occurred before cloud migration was enabled on the dongle, the migration prompt will appear after logging into Dental Manager.
Step 2: Cloud License Notification
Once the profile is created, and if the dongle is eligible for migration, you will receive a Cloud License Introduction Notification.
This screen will display the company name your account is associated with.
Click “Next” to proceed.
Step 3: Confirm License Transfer
You will now see a confirmation screen where:
- The dongle(s) connected to the device are listed.
- You must confirm the company name again.
Tick the checkbox “I confirm” and click “Transfer” to initiate migration.
Step 4: Handling Partial Transfers
Sometimes, you might get a message saying “Some licenses could not be transferred to the cloud.”
This typically occurs if the dongle contains other licenses (e.g., Unite or Ortho) not eligible for cloud migration yet.
Keep the dongle plugged in to retain access to those licenses and click “Continue.”
Step 5: Migration Confirmation
If the migration completes successfully, you will see a message confirming that your licenses have been successfully transferred to the cloud.
Click “Done” to finish.
Step 6: Verify Cloud License Activation
To ensure the license is cloud-based:
- Open Dental System Control Panel.
- Navigate to Subscription Management > License Service.
- Check that “Use Cloud License” is enabled.
- You should also see your active cloud licenses listed.
Cloud License Subscription activation in Dental System
From Dental System version 24.1.0, it is possible to activate cloud-native licenses without a dongle:
- Go to Control Panel > Subscription Management > Activate Subscription.
- Enter the activation code provided by your reseller.
- Transfer to cloud license.
Cloud License Subscription migration without an active migration dongle option
Starting from Dental System version 24.1.0, a dongle can be migrated to the cloud even if it is not officially eligible for migration (i.e., the corresponding migration option is not enabled on the dongle).
To perform the migration, without the option:
- Navigate to Subscription Management
- Check the Use cloud license option
- Reboot the PC
- Click the Migrate dongle button in Subscription Management
