Exporting Scans in STL or PLY Format from Dental Manager

Dental System allows you to export scans from accepted orders in STL or PLY format directly from Dental Manager.

Prerequisites:

• The "TRIOS Scan STL Export" dongle option must be enabled to export scans.
• PLY export is available starting from Dental System 2021.

Exporting Scans

Scans can only be exported from accepted orders. If you received an order through 3Shape Communicate, TRIOS Direct Connection, or FTP, first accept the order from the Inbox. Once the order has been accepted, return to the "Orders" tab and follow the steps below.

Scans can be exported from the accepted orders only. If you received an order from Communicate, Trios Direct Connection, or FTP, please proceed to Inbox, accept the order first, return to the Orders tab, and do the following:

Step 1: In the "Orders" tab, right-click the required order.

Step 2: Select "Advanced".

Step 3: Click "Export Scan".

If the "Export Scan" option is unavailable, contact your reseller to obtain the "TRIOS Scan STL Export" dongle option.

Step 4: Configure the export settings as follows:

• "Save model with Y-axis or Z-axis up?" — Y-axis
• "Decimate scan?" — No
• "Save scan as separate files?" — Yes

These settings are recommended, but you can modify them if required.

Step 5: Browse to the folder where you want to save the exported scans.

Step 6: From the "Save as Type" drop-down list, select either "STL (.stl)" or "PLY (.ply)".

Step 7: Click "Save".

The save dialog appears once for each scan in the order.

Note: Because TRIOS scans use the same default file name, rename each subsequent file before saving. Otherwise, previously exported scans will be overwritten.
