Populating Anatomy and Pontic Library
08/11/2023To populate an empty Anatomy and Pontic library or modify an existing one, you can either scan a model or import a scanned model.
Scanning a Model
Step 1: Open "Dental System Control Panel".
Step 2: Select "Anatomy Elements".
Step 3: Select "ScanIt Library".
Step 4: Click "Scan Crown Library".
Alternatively:
Step 1: Open "Dental System Control Panel".
Step 2: Select "Anatomy Elements".
Step 3: Select "Anatomy and Pontic Libraries".
Step 4: Select the library from the list.
Step 5: Click "Scan Library Models".
Step 6: Select the library from the list if it is not already selected.
Step 7: Select the tooth to scan.
Step 8: Optionally select "Mirror Tooth" to save the mirrored contralateral tooth.
Step 9: Click "OK".
Before scanning, ensure that the scanning height is configured in "File" > "Scan Settings".
Step 10: Insert the model into the scanner.
Step 11: Click "Next" to start scanning.
Step 12: After scanning, prepare the model scan.
Importing a Model
You can import a scanned model using one of the following methods.
From ScanIt Library
Step 1: Open "Dental System Control Panel".
Step 2: Select "Anatomy Elements".
Step 3: Select "ScanIt Library".
Step 4: Click "Open Crown Library".
From Anatomy and Pontic Libraries
Step 1: Open "Dental System Control Panel".
Step 2: Select "Anatomy Elements".
Step 3: Select "Anatomy and Pontic Libraries".
Step 4: Select the library from the list.
Step 5: Click "Edit Library Models". Library Models".

This opens the Scan Library window in ScanIt Library.
To populate the library:
Step 6: Select a tooth in the tooth map.
Step 7: When prompted, click "Yes" to import the corresponding model.
Step 8: Browse to the required file and import it.
Step 9: Prepare the imported scan using the ScanIt Library tools. library button.

Preparing the Model
Cut the Model Bottom
Step 1: Define the bottom boundary by placing boundary points around the base of the model.
Step 2: Click "Apply".
Step 3: Click "OK" to continue.

Transform the Scan
Step 1: Use the double-sided arrows to position the scan in the appropriate coordinate system.
Step 2: Click "OK" to continue.

Scale the Scan
Step 1: Select the appropriate scale factor.
Step 2: Scale the model to its actual size.
Step 3: Click "OK".
Step 4: Click "Next" to continue.

The black box indicates the model's actual size.
Remove Artifacts
Step 1: Use the "Remove Artifacts" tool to remove unwanted elements from the scan.
Step 2: Use the wax knife tool to add or remove material as required.
Step 3: Click "OK" to continue.

Add a Lower Boundary and Morph Points
To use automatic crown design initialization in Dental Designer, a lower boundary and morph points must be added to the scan.
Step 1: Add the lower boundary using the same method used to define the bottom boundary.
Step 2: Add the requested characteristic points as prompted.
The characteristic points identify the following tooth surface zones:
- Cusp
- Groove
- Occlusal contact point
- Vestibular zone

As the required points are added, they are marked with check marks.
Optionally, you can create custom point groups by clicking "New".
Step 3: Click "OK" after all required morph points have been added.
Step 4: Click "OK" to complete the model population process.
