Checking Implant System Quality in Dental System
07/11/2023This article explains how to identify issues in imported implant systems and implant kits in Dental System.
Requirements for Implant Library Files
When importing implant libraries, attachment libraries, tooth libraries, CAD blocks, or other libraries from third-party providers instead of the "Download Center" in "Dental System Control Panel", some library components may not meet the required quality standards.
Library component files should meet the following requirements:
- Solid (contain no internal structure)
- Watertight (contain no holes)
- Saved in DCM or STL format
- Contain no sub-models
- Have good triangulation (triangles should be as close to equilateral as possible and avoid long, narrow triangles)
Some library components are used only for visualization, while others are used by CAD algorithms during the design process. Components used for CAD algorithms should be free of the issues listed above.
Starting with Dental System 2.22.1.0, implant system kits can be checked for file quality issues before they are used for design.
Checking an Implant System Kit
When importing an implant system into Dental System 2022 or later, Dental System automatically checks the implant system during the import process. If issues such as "Self-intersections" or "Boundaries issues" are detected, a warning message is displayed.

Follow the steps below to check an implant system kit for file quality issues.
Step 1: Open "Dental System Control Panel".
Step 2: Select "Implant Systems".
Step 3: Select the implant system kit to check.
Step 4: Click "Check".
If Dental System detects any issues, a warning message describing the detected problem will be displayed.

If no issues are detected, the message "No issues found" is displayed.
Handling Warnings and Errors During Design
If an implant system with detected issues is selected for a design, Dental System validates the kit during the workflow.
If the detected issue is not critical, a warning message is displayed. You can:
- Continue the design while taking the reported issues into consideration.
- Stop the design and contact the implant library provider to correct the implant library.
If a critical issue is detected, Dental System displays an error message describing the problem and prevents you from continuing the design.

If Dental System detects issues with an implant system or implant kit, contact the implant library provider to have the library corrected.
